Welcome to another Field Trip Friday!
To continue our theme of summer travel, this week we will be visiting the Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford, Connecticut! Mark Twain, whose real name is Samuel Clemens, is best known for his work as the author of several books such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Not only was he an author, he was also a lecturer, inventor, journalist, and lover of science and technology! Mark Twain was renowned for his witty humor and his criticisms of mankind, shown through satire in his work.
The Mark Twain House and Museum was the home of Mark Twain in Hartford, Connecticut. The house went through a lot after the Clemens sold the home in 1903. It functioned as an apartment building, a pubic library, as a school, and later declared as a National Historic Landmark. Because of some financial difficulties, the building was almost lost, but luckily, with the support of the community, the museum was saved and continues to attract visitors everyday.
